The Bureau of Indian Affairs posted online the final rules for oil and gas drilling on May 8. The 155-page document will be published in the Federal Register on May 11.
The rules are the product of the Negotiated Rulemaking process that was a result of the 2010 Osage Trust Case settlement. The rulemaking process took place in 2013 and involved the BIA, the second Osage Minerals Council and the Bureau of Land Management. The new rules update 25 CFR part 226.
More than 500 comments from the public were taken into consideration while finalizing the rules, according to BIA director Mike Black who spoke to The Journal Record.
