Elders at an employment disadvantage may be eligible for work thanks to a program in Osage County specifically designed to employ senior citizens.
Grand Gateway Economic Development Association’s Senior Community Service Employment Program is now enrolling individuals 55 and older for a paid training program. Qualifications include those seniors who are economically disadvantaged, long term unemployed, and wanting to re-enter the workforce.
Those who qualify will be assigned to local public and non-profit organizations for 20-25 hours per week and are paid a training wage of $7.25 per hour while preparing for and seeking permanent employment. The goal of the program is to help those 55 and older get back into the workforce by updating skills and providing services that will assist in their job search, while providing an income to help sustain them during their search, according to a prepared release.
