Congress passes bill amending AG code and Legislative budget bill

The Fourth Osage Nation Congress passed two legislative bills on Day 7 of its 2015 Tzi-Zho Session and those bills will be sent to Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear for his consideration.

Those bills passing with unanimous 12-0 votes are:

  • ONCA 15-74 (sponsored by Congressional Speaker Maria Whitehorn): An act to amend Osage law that establishes the ON office of the Attorney General, which charges the entity with implementing recently-passed amendments to the Osage Constitution and then to publish an updated Constitution.

A similar resolution, also sponsored by Whitehorn, was passed during the Hun-Kah Session, but Standing Bear pocket-vetoed it.

A revised Osage Constitution that includes the three voter-approved amendments (in resolutions ONCR 13-19, ONCR 13-20 and ONCR 13-22) has yet to be produced in print and online form. Osage voters favored the amendments during the June 2014 election.

  • ONCA 15-80 (Congressman John Jech) is the 2016 fiscal year budget for the Legislative Branch set at $2.3 million.

The next meeting date for the Congress will be held on Day 9 of the 24-day session, which is Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.
