Wahzhazhe: An Osage Ballet scheduled to perform in New Mexico

This summer, Wahzhazhe: An Osage Ballet will be performed in Santa Fe, N.M. and fundraising efforts are underway to pay for the expenses.

Randy Tinker Smith, ballet director, said performances are scheduled Aug. 6 and 7 in Santa Fe at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

Wahzhazhi: An Osage Ballet chronicles the Osage Nation's history through dance with Smith producing the ballet and her daughter Jenna Smith choreographing the performance.

Fundraising efforts are underway to cover the ballet performance expenses, including travel for the cast and crew to Santa Fe, including an art auction this weekend.

On Saturday Feb. 27, the ballet is holding a benefit art auction at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati Ave., in Tulsa. The auction will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and auction admission is free.

According to an event announcement, the auction will feature works by local, Native American and Osage artists including: Anita Fields, Kilan Jacobs, Norman Akers and the late Gina Gray.
