Health Career Summer Scholarship applications are now available for those Osage students entering the 11th and 12th grade. The summer scholarship program gives a chance for Osage youth to get an inside look at what it takes to run a health clinic and encourages them to enter the health field.
There are six available positions for a four-week rotation throughout the Wah-Zha-Zhi Health Center, July 2 through July 27. The students will also enjoy hospital tours and academic enrichment lectures at Tri-County Tech, a new addition to the program, according to a prepared release.
“The Health Division encourages students to pursue Health Careers with the hope that interested Osage students will return and work for Osage people in our health system. There is a shortage in all fields of healthcare within the Osage Nation for Osages,” according to the release. “The more Osages occupy positions within our health system the more stable our workforce becomes and with that, improvement in the quality of care. The Osage Nation Congress appropriated the necessary funds for this program with the hope that our Osage Healthcare workforce will be strengthened in the future.”
Applications are available on the Osage Nation Website at www.osagenation-nsn.gov/opportunities/job-listings and Health Career Summer Program.
During the four-week program, students will be rotated through the following fields of interest as observers and participate in discussion and lectures; and in some cases, asked to participate in work duties:
Lectures in biology
First aid training
The closing date for applications is April 30 at 5 p.m. CST. Awards expect to be published by May 31. For more information please contact the Osage Nation Human Resources department at (918) 287-5609.
