The Osage Nation will swear in its new Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear, Assistant Principal Chief Raymond Red Corn, six newly elected Fourth Osage Nation Congress members, Judicial Branch judges and the Third Osage Minerals Council July 1-2.

Andrew Yates, Cynthia Boone, Talee Redcorn, Joseph Cheshewalla, Galen Crum, Kathryn Red Corn, Everett Waller and Stephanie Erwin will be sworn in as the Third Osage Minerals Council at 11 a.m. on July 1 at the Osage Minerals Council chambers in Pawhuska. A Catholic mass will be held at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Pawhuska. According to the OMC, the church approached the council and offered to conduct a mass and the council accepted. Not all council members are Catholic. Following the swearing in will be a noon dinner at the Osage Tribal Museum. Red Corn is also the director of the museum. Keynote speaker for the event will be David Conrad, Director of Tribal and Intergovernmental Affairs at U.S. Department of Energy.

On July 2, Osage Casinos-Ponca City will host the Inauguration for Standing Bear, Red Corn, and newly elected congress members Alice Buffalohead, Dr. Ron Shaw, William “Kugee” Supernaw, James Norris, Otto Hamilton and Angela Marie Pratt. Osage Nation Supreme Court Judge Meredith Drent and Osage Nation Trial Court Judge Marvin Stepson will also be sworn in. The event begins at 10 a.m. with keynote speaker U.S. Congressman Tom Cole. The day’s festivities will be streamed live on www.osagetribe.org.

“Over a year ago our Congressional Affairs Committee decided on an event that celebrated our people’s government and an orderly transfer of power. Chief BigHorse agreed, and we believe we have planned a program befitting the Great Osage Nation and our citizens,” said Osage Congresswoman Shannon Edwards, Congressional Inauguration Planning Committee representative. “We are excited to welcome Congressman Cole to our Nation and showcase our fine Ponca City facility. We look forward to seeing our members and guests.”
