The latest amended edition of the Osage Nation Constitution is now available for all Osage constituents.
The 2006 Osage Constitution is now in its fifth edition with hardcopies published by Westwood Printing in Norman. This edition – with a red-colored cover – comprises all Constitutional amendments approved by Osage voters during four past elections held since its ratification.
According to a news release, physical copies are available at the ON Judicial Branch Building, 1333 Grandview Ave., and the ON Visitor’s Center, 602 E. Main St., in Pawhuska. Digital copies are also available to download from www.osagenation-nsn.gov
The amended version reflects the most recent amendment voters approved in June 2020 to add term limits of five terms for the Principal Chief, Assistant Principal Chief, Congress and Judicial officers.
“In addition, modifications were made to improve readability. The red cover replaces the previous purple cover in order to clearly identify which is the most recent,” the release stated. “It is the supreme law for the Osage Nation. All Osage Nation constituents are encouraged to access the Constitution as an act of sovereignty and responsible citizenry.”
The Osage Nation Constitution was ratified on March 11, 2006, signed on May 6, 2006, and amended on June 2, 2014; June 6, 2016; March 20, 2017; and June 1, 2020.
