Seven community organizations received the Osage Nation Community Challenge Grant for 2012.
A total of $126,493 was awarded to organizations within Osage County. The projects include:
• Pawhuska High School Football, awarded $25,000 to renovate the stadium to include handicap accessible bathrooms, a concession stand and a new sound system.
• Hominy Public Schools, awarded $9,500 to purchase new playground equipment for the Early Childhood Center.
• Kah-Wah-C Country Club, Inc., awarded $14,893 to install a new water system for the golf course.
• Pawhuska Quarterback Club (Parent Volunteer Organization), awarded $25,000 for new plumbing, new lockers, and a new drywall for the High School locker room.
• Bowing Public Schools, awarded $25,000 for purchase of new playground equipment.
• Town of Skiatook, awarded $25,000 for new youth sports complex building.
• Wynona Summer League, awarded $2,100 for improvement of City Park.
The Community Challenge Grant is a matching grant encouraging the development of facilities located within the physical boundaries of the Osage Nation for use by Osage Reservation youth to promote an active lifestyle, to prevent diabetes and other diseases, and to support the growth of communities within the Osage Nation, according to a prepared release.
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be located within the physical boundaries of the Osage Nation, which includes the communities of Pawhuska, Wynona, Barnsdall, Avant, Skiatook, Prue, Osage, Fairfax, McCord and Shidler. Local community governments, community foundations, or recognized and established community organizations must submit the applications.
