Hello, my name is Colt Herren and I am asking for your support for Osage Nation Congress.
I live in Skiatook, OK with my wife, Sara, and our children, Cash, Chaz and Chloe, on our Osage County ranch. Our ranch was original allotted land to my mother’s side of the family, the Stevens’/Wyricks’. It has been passed down through the generations and I am now the 5th generation to own it. While keeping it a working cattle ranch, I am doing my best to teach my children how to be good stewards of the land.
Being a tribal member land owner, I want to make sure that our lands (whether tribal or member owned) are being taken care of by the lessee. To ensure that the lands are being taken care of not only to the owner’s desire (within reason) but also the way that our ancestors intended. I would love to see a Cultural Center and Tribal Kid’s Programs developed on the Blue Stem Ranch. There is great opportunity to not only to enrich our Osage culture with our members, but bring mindfulness to the community. The Kid’s Programs could benefit the children of our future, giving them opportunities they may otherwise not have.
I have been in public service since 2003. I started my firefighting career with Skiatook Fire Dept. and joined the Osage County Sheriff’s Office in 2005, where I have worked my way up to Reserve Sargent. I then joined the Tulsa Fire Dept. in 2006 where I am currently a firefighter. I feel that these rolls have given me the experience needed to represent the people of the Osage Nation by working with the public on a day to day basis. I am very interested in and look forward to start working towards an Osage Nation ran Ambulance Service for all of Osage County. This service would focus on the rural areas and cities without a current emergency medical service. This would give benefits to make the nation itself more self-sufficient and could possibly bring in additional revenue for the tribe.
Being a foster/ adoptive parent for the Osage Nation, I have a strong desire for the social services. I want to make sure that our social service department always has the funding and personnel needed to protect and serve our foster children and adults needing assistance. This would ensure that our most vulnerable members do not get left behind and overlooked.
I want to make sure that the members always know what programs are available to help them prosper but more importantly, I promise to always be the voice for people of the Osage Nation.
These are just a few of my ideas that I feel could not only make the tribe stronger, but also benefit the members of the Osage Nation.
Thank you
Colt Herren
