Pawhuska is no stranger to movie stars but the movie stars don’t often visit the Osage Tribal Museum.
The fundraising machine for the docudrama, “Playground of the Native Son,” have asked Chaske Spencer, who plays “Sam Uley” in all four of the popular Twilight films, to help raise awareness. The public is invited to meet Spencer at a fundraising event Nov. 10 at the Osage Tribal Museum from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., along with the film’s producer Celia Xavier and director Michael Nash.
Admission is $20 per person (children 6 to 12 are $10, under 6 is free). Casting call for football players, actors and extras for the film will be going on at the same time. Hundreds of extras will be needed, Native and non-Native, according to a prepared release. Each donor at the event will be entered in a chance to win two tickets to “Breaking Dawn: Part 2”.

The docudrama centers around the 1920s all-Native professional football team the Hominy Indians and their 28 game winning streak. According to a prepared release, “The professional football team was financed by two Osage brothers from Hominy, Oklahoma, Ira and Otto Hamilton. The film follows the team’s obstacles and victories from 1924 to 1936. During this time the Osage “Reign of Terror” was taking place when Osage Indians were dying mysterious deaths.”
The docudrama also covers the period when the Hominy Indians defeated the New York Giants to become the World Champions.
“The Giants thought playing the Indian team was a joke and at halftime the Indians were trailing in the game,” according to the release. “They played for the love of the game; but realized in this single game they were fighting for much more: their ancestors, their land and proof that they were still great warriors of the Plains.”
The Hominy Indians Feature Film and Documentary is an approved Arts Matching Grant of the Osage Nation Foundation. Donations will be made through the Foundation and used toward the filming of the documentary of the Hominy Indians. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit United Global Shift, focusing on the environment, employment, entrepreneurship, health and education for indigenous people; Spencer is the co-founder.
