Election Office reports 1,466 absentee ballots received as of May 21

As of May 21, the Wahzhazhe Elections Office reported 1,466 absentee ballots have been received by the Pawhuska Post Office for voting in the 2020 Osage Nation General Election.

The absentee ballots – received and further incoming ones – will be kept in locked metal boxes at the Post Office until 10 a.m. on June 1 Election Day. The Election Office receives mailing updates from Business Reply Mail Post Office postage reports. Absentee voters are instructed to mail their marked ballots in postage-paid envelopes supplied with the absentee ballot.

Voters are also instructed to “make sure your ballots are in the mail so that they will have enough time to arrive at our Post Office box to be counted,” the Election Office wrote in a Facebook update.

In April, the Election Office staff mailed a total of 2,921 absentee ballots requested by voters and to those who are on the permanent absentee voter list.

At 10 a.m. on Election Day, the election staff – with assistance from the ON Police Department – will retrieve the absentee ballots kept at the Pawhuska Post Office to be counted at the polling place. Those officials will also collect early voting ballots, which will be kept in the Election Office vault after May 29-30 early voting ends.

Election Day Voting

The Election Day polling place is at the ON Civic Center located at 1449 W. Main St. in Pawhuska. Voting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 1.

Early Voting

On May 29-30, early voting will also take place at the ON Civic Center in Pawhuska. Voting times are:

– Friday, May 29: noon to 7 p.m.

– Saturday, May 30: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For election results, the six Congressional candidates out of 15 total seeking office who receive the highest number of votes will be elected. There are two Constitutional amendment questions also appearing on the ballot. For the Constitutional amendments, 65% of electors must vote “yes” for the amendment to pass.
