Ericca Unap Dennis: Candidate statement for 2022 Osage Nation General Election

Candidate statements and announcements are a free submission offered to candidates of the 2022 Osage Nation General Election.

By Ericca Unap Dennis

Ha.weh. My name is Ericca Unap Dennis. It would be an extreme honor to have an opportunity to serve my Osage people as an elected member of the 8th Osage Nation Congress. I am humbly asking for your support and endorsement during my inaugural election season.

To provide more information about me; my husband Anthony and I have four children and have been Tulsans for the past 20 years. I grew up in Skiatook, Oklahoma from the age of two and left my hometown to attend art school in Dallas where I met my husband.

My family drum is from the Hominy, Zon-Zo-Li, district. My parents are Doris Black Unap (Creek/Seminole/Otoe) and the late Terry Unap (Osage/Kiowa). My paternal grandparents are Myrtle Morrell Unap and Arthur Unap Sr. My paternal great-grandparents are Grace Penn-Morrell and Robert Morrell.

My family has always had a commitment to serving others within the branches of the military and tribal governments. My maternal grandfather is the late and former Otoe tribal Chairman, Kenneth Black. I grew up watching him lead with an unconditional love for his people. His integrity and influence on my life is cornerstone to every decision I’ve made in my business dealings and personal life.

As a self-made woman, I have worked hard since the age of 15 to build a successful career based on diligence, dedication, persistence, and willingness to adapt to change. I built my career experience in administration, business development, marketing, sales, and operations with a focus in the senior living industry.

As the current Executive Director of a 150-residence senior living community in Tulsa, I’ve served at the helm during the challenging times the pandemic presented. The most important lesson learned during this time is to believe in people and be a believer in each other with willingness to make investments in one another. This election season I am asking my Osage people to invest in me so I may use my experience to advocate for our Nation, our families and beloved elders, as new legislation is created and introduced.

As appropriation needs are discussed, my intention is to be a voice that represents all Osage people. Together, we will create our path as we continue to evolve and move ahead into today’s challenging climate. The Osage people have nothing but opportunities ahead for economic growth and prosperity. Together with the right leaders in place our goals for our Nation are achievable.

If elected I promise to be a true collaborator with other members of Congress, the Chief’s office, and executive branch to be a true servant for the members of the Osage Nation. I am grateful for your audience and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Please join me for a reception April 16 at 1 p.m. at the Osage Casino in Skiatook to learn more about my plans to serve my Osage people as an elected member of the 8th Osage Nation Congress.

With love, be well.

Ericca Unap Dennis
