Inauguration Day for the Fifth Osage Nation Congress will take place starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Skiatook Osage Casino Hotel.

Congress members re-elected to four-year terms (Maria Whitehorn, Archie Mason, Shannon Edwards, John Maker and RJ Walker) and first-time Congressman-elect Joe Tillman will all take their oaths of office during the ceremony.

The inauguration will be livestreamed from the ON website at: www.osagenation-nsn.gov/multimedia/live-media

According to the Congressional Office, the Fifth ON Congress will convene that afternoon for a tentatively-scheduled First Special Session at 4 p.m. in the Congressional Chambers for the purposes of electing Congressional leadership and to form its Congressional committees.

According to Osage law (ONCA 14-45), the Congress is allowed to waive its 10-day notice requirement for a special session for the specific purpose of electing its officers and setting its Congressional committees for the year. These special sessions are limited up to three business days following the inauguration of the incoming Congressional members during even-numbered election years.

Per Congressional rules, the 12-member Congress will vote to select its Speaker and Second Speaker, who will serve as chairperson of the Congressional Affairs Committee.

Other Congressional select and standing committees are: Rules & Ethics, Appropriations, Education, Commerce & Economic Developments, Governmental Operations, Cultural, Health & Social Services, and Membership.

All Congressional sessions are livestreamed from the ON website and information on sessions and filed legislation are available on the Congressional website: www.osagenation-nsn.gov/who-we-are/legislative-branch
