Internship opportunities with Osage Casinos announced

Osage Casinos CEO, staff members and Gaming Enterprise Board member plan to attend Osage California meetings

Osage Casinos and the Osage Nation Education Department are working on gaming-related internship opportunities for Osage higher education students seeking work experience.

Kimberly Pearson, Osage Casinos CEO, told the Gaming Enterprise Board on March 22 she spoke with the Nation’s Education Department about future internships recently and plans are in the works. Advertisements have recently been released for the internship opportunities.

Pearson noted the casinos have done similar internships in the past and efforts are being made to revitalize the opportunities for Osages who may be considering the gaming and business work sectors.

“We had a call with (Director) Mary Wildcat in the Education Department and we’re going to be doing our own kind of rollout of the summer internship program, which is a partnership with the Education Department where we’re going to host internships in multiple departments,” Pearson said.

Once the gaming internship opportunities are created, Pearson said “we’re going to create an email blast that will go out through the Nation and to all the (higher education) scholarship recipients and then we’re going to do some other advertisements. We think this is a good opportunity for Osage students that give them (work) experience for us and hopefully, we will get them as lifelong employees.”

Also during her report that day to the gaming board, Pearson plans to attend the two upcoming California Osage organization gatherings. The United Osages of Southern California gathering is scheduled April 29 at the Carlsbad Senior Center and starts at 10 a.m. The following month, the Northern California Osage organization scheduled a gathering in Cotati at the Veterans Memorial Building starting at 9:30 a.m.

Pearson said GEB member Claudette Carnett and Osage Casinos Facilities Director Bruce Cass will attend both events as well. “We’re putting together a slideshow to let our constituency in those areas know all the good things that are happening in gaming and give them an opportunity to meet face-to-face and ask questions,” she said.
