John Andrew Hopper was born in Pawhuska, Okla., on Oct. 11, 1979. His parents were
John Henry Hopper and Mary Grayce Bighorse (Gray). John had six sisters and four brothers; he was right in the middle of all of them. He graduated from Pawhuska High School and then attended Northeastern State University.
John was the proud father of his little girl, Meena Roan Hopper. John loved his daughter and enjoyed being a great girl dad. After being spoiled by his sisters, he turned right around and loved his daughter.
John was an avid sports fan. He loved to play golf. He always took time to have a competitive game of kickball with his nieces and nephews. John loved the Denver Broncos, he also was a fan of the Texas Longhorns, LA Dodgers, OSU Cowboys, and the Pawhuska Huskies. John enjoyed playing in Poker tournaments.
John loved being Osage and Otoe. He looked forward to the Osage Ceremonial Dances and the Otoe Encampments. He loved an orange sunset and clear skies. His favorite quote was by Charles H. Red Corn, and the first line says, “There is something good about being Osage …”
John was of the Ponka Peace Maker Clan. His Osage name is Wa Si Ta.
To know John was to love John.
John Andrew Hopper passed from this life into the next on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, at St John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
John is survived by his daughter Meena Roan Hopper; his sisters, Dana Daylight, Jacque (Shannon) Jones, Walkeen Wahwassuck, Mary (Beaushee) Wildcat, Laura (Lovie) Sage and Francis Hopper; his brothers, Chip Farrimond, Anthony (Missy) Farrimond, Jim (Jonna) Hopper and Jess (Caroline) Hopper; 12 nephews and 18 nieces; five great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Henry Hopper and Mary Grayce Gray Bighorse; his grandparents, Andrew Edward and Margaret Gray; Johnny and Delphine Hopper.
John will have visitation at the Wakon Iron Chapel in Pawhuska Monday and Tuesday, November 27 and 28, 2023. Rosary and Prayer Service, Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Wakon Iron Chapel.
Services for John Hopper will be Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, with an 8 a.m. traditional Osage Service at the Wakon Iron Chapel, and a 10 a.m. Catholic service at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Pierce St. John Cemetery, County Road 2667 in Pawhuska, Okla., with a traditional Osage Meal to follow at the Wakon Iron Community Building in Pawhuska. Arrangements have been provided by Powell Funeral Home in Hominy, Okla.
