Funeral services for Leslie Kenneth “Kenny” Copeland III, 47, of Mounds, OK, were held Monday, October 23, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Phillip Johnson officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Kyler Childers, Kendall Copeland, Lisa Owens, David Sherouse, Jami Nelson, and Achilles Martinez. Honorary Casket bearer was Sabian Martinez.

Kenny was born March 2, 1976, in Claremore, Oklahoma to Martha Jane (Jones) Ward and Leslie Kenneth Copeland. He passed away on October 14, 2023, in Tulsa, OK.

Kenny loved animals. He was excited and proud to be a brother and was also proud to be a father. Kenny loved tattoos and rock-n-roll. He dreamed of being a tattoo artist even attempting it a few times. Sometimes it was good and other times not so much. He had perfect handwriting and meticulous art. Kenny was proud to be a member of the Osage Nation. He liked having long hair and wearing traditional braids. He was strong and athletic and never backed down from a fight. Kenny was smart and had a good sense of humor, but also knew how to take himself seriously. He was very protective of his family, especially his mother. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Kenny struggled with mental illness; for that reason, he led a hard life. He wasn’t always perfect, no one truly is. Although estranged from family in this life, his death will unite them. Most of all he is loved and no longer alone.

He is survived by his son, Kyler Childers of Sand Springs; mother, Martha Ward of Mounds, OK; sisters, Lisa Owens of Tulsa, Jamie Owens of Tulsa, Leah Stalling of Jennings, and Nellie Irwin of Cleveland; brother, Eddie Erwin of Sapulpa; cousins, Justin Martinez, and Mary Sanchez; and numerous aunts, uncles, and other cousins, nieces, nephews; stepmother, Dana Maxwell Copeland of Cleveland; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Leslie Kenneth Copeland; sister, Trinity Copeland; paternal grandparents, Leslie and Maxine Copeland; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Anna Jones; stepdad, James David Nelson; stepmom, Peggy Copeland.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
