Media Mogul Ted Turner will be present at the Osage Nation celebration of the Bluestem Ranch acquisition on Aug. 24.
“We seek to preserve, protect and sustain the land,” Standing Bear said in a news release.
The land will officially change hands on Aug. 24 and the celebration will be located at the Bluestem Ranch near Hominy.
Standing Bear said to Turner the land would help reconnect the youth of the Osage Nation with their culture and the history of the land where their ancestors lived, hunted and thrived.
According to a news release, the Osage Nation arrived to what is now Osage County from their former reservations in Missouri and Kansas in 1871. The final home of the Osages consisted of an area of 1,470,559 acres. The Osage held the land together in one parcel until it was divided into individual parcels by federal law in 1906. For years Turner, founder of CNN and Turner Broadcasting, has owned 43,000 acres of former Osage land.
Attending the Bluestem Ranch acquisition will be Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear, Osage Nation dignitaries, tribal members, Chiefs and representatives of other federally recognized tribes, state and federal government officials.
