Northern California Osage hosting a “Gathering of Chiefs” on Aug. 13

The Northern California Osage organization is holding “A Gathering of Chiefs” for its regional meeting scheduled Aug. 13 in Petaluma.

At the Saturday meeting, Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear and former Principal Chiefs John Red Eagle, Scott BigHorse and Jim Gray are all scheduled to attend as part of a historical perspective discussion for the meeting. At 10 a.m. the gathering will start at Petaluma’s Hermann Sons Hall at 860 Western Ave.

Also according to the agenda, Congresswoman Alice Buffalohead will give a traditional Osage cooking discussion. Buffalohead is currently on the cook committee for the Hominy District.

Northern California resident Keir Johnson (Osage), who has studied and worked on corn preservation efforts, will have a presentation titled “Braiding the sacred: Gatherings of corn and people of the Americas.”
