The Northern California Osage is hosting its 2019 Spring Gathering on Saturday, April 27 at Nelson’s Grove in Woodland.
This will be the second gathering event held at Nelson’s Grove, which is an outdoor park venue featuring presentations and speakers from the Osage Nation touching on current events and cultural activities. The Woodland area is approximately 20 miles west of downtown Sacramento.
According to an NCO gathering agenda, the daylong gathering starts at 9:30 a.m. with registration followed by a presentation on “A Personal Learning Process in Osage Craft Techniques” by NCO coordinating committee members Keir Johnson-Reyes and Chelsea Bryan.
Vann Bighorse, director of the ON Language Department, is also scheduled to deliver a presentation. There will also be group discussions for attendees to share “stories from home” followed by lunch.
There will be a presentation on Braiding the Sacred Corn Growers Network and craft activities by Wahzhazhe Cultural Center staff attending the event.
There will also be a raffle for gift items donated by attendees. Items featured at past gathering raffles included Osage arts and crafts, books, shopping/ food gift certificates and handmade Native American jewelry.
