The Oklahoma Native Democrats will be holding an informational meeting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 at the Ponca City Public Library. The grassroots organization, created in June by the former Oklahoma Democrat Party Native Liaison, has been holding informational meetings across the state to engage Natives in the political process.
“We are looking for Native American Democrats in Oklahoma who are interested in getting involved on the ground floor of developing a Native caucus of the state party, increasing Native participation in state and local politics, and increasing the number of Natives registered to vote,” said OND Vice-Chair Krystal Caesar.
The organization leaders are dedicated to voter outreach, registering voters and have had outreach booths at both the IICOT and Indian Hills powwows this summer. Previous informational meetings have been held in Oklahoma City, Shawnee, Fort Cobb and Tulsa.
