The Fifth Osage Nation Congress convenes for its sixth special session starting Monday Feb. 27 in the Congressional chambers building.
The Congress will consider filed legislative bills and resolutions, which include the following:
ONCA 17-22 (sponsored by Congressional Speaker Angela Pratt) – A bill seeking to appropriate $450,000 to the Nation’s matching grant fund to meet the 15 percent tribal match requirement of the Community Connect Grant. If approved, the money would come from the Nation’s economic development fund, according to the filed bill.
The Nation is seeking the 2017 Community Connect Grant opportunity available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which helps fund broadband deployment into rural communities where it is not yet economically viable for private sectors to deliver service, according to the Department’s website.
ONCA 17-23 (Congressman Joe Tillman): An act to provide a $41,000 supplemental appropriation to the Nation’s Land, Commerce and Agriculture Division for the survey, site work and construction of a greenhouse at the Nation-owned Bird Creek Farms.
ONCR 17-10 (Congressman Ron Shaw): A resolution to authorize the expenditure of $1,825,000 out of the Nation’s capital asset and improvement fund for construction of a new Grayhorse village community building.
ONCR 17-11: (Congressman John Maker): A resolution to authorize the expenditure of $100,000 out of the capital asset and improvement fund for designing, creating and erecting a sculpture of Osage Chief Claremore.
Special sessions may last up to 10 days or extended by three days at the written request of two-thirds of the Congress, according to the Osage Constitution.
