The theme for the first annual “Art on the Stairs” contest was: A Wah-Zha-Zhi Christmas.
The rules of the contest said there must be 10 people per group with a combination of two or more departments, participants must be employed by the Osage Nation and the displays were to be 4×4 pieces of pre-cut plywood; the displays were required to stand in an upright position.
There were seven entries this year. The pieces of art are displayed on the 7th Street stairway and will be there until the winners are announced by Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear on Dec. 6 at the Inaugural Wah-Zha-Zhi Christmas Extravaganza.
The contest will be judged by the Osage Nation Judicial Branch with the winning team receiving $75 gift cards to the Osage Casinos. The cards can be used toward hotel, gas, play, and restaurant. The winners will also receive Wah-Zha-Zhi Christmas T-Shirts from the day’s events.
The art is to be maintained by the teams themselves, to protect them from the elements. The pieces will be displayed rain or shine.
The Osage News will post the winners of the contest after they are announced.
