ONPD gives former K-9 Officer Arrak police escort to final resting place

Arc crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 16 after unforeseen medical complications. He served with the ONPD for seven-and-a-half years.

Former ONPD K-9 Officer Arrak, or Arc, was escorted to his final resting place in Skiatook by the ONPD and other area officers on Aug. 16.

Arc’s former handler, ONPD Sgt. Patrick Luey, and the family that took him in after he retired in 2022, spoke of his achievements as an officer and how loved he was at a memorial service held for the K-9 officer. As Arc’s handler, Sgt. Luey spent countless hours with Arc, maintaining his training, both on and off duty, and making sure he stayed sharp for duty. Their bond was built on trust, rigorous training and mutual respect.

During his tenure at the ONPD, Arc is accredited for 85 arrests from free air sniffs and 10 successful tracks leading to the apprehension and arrests of suspects, according to reports. Arc’s mere presence deterred crime.

He assisted in several searches, confiscating over 500 grams of meth, 900 grams of marijuana, 30 grams of fentanyl, 50 grams of cocaine, and approximately 20 grams of heroin from the streets, according to the ONPD. Due to his ability to sniff and detect illegal drugs during traffic stops, Arc helped lead officers toward intel which resulted in the apprehension of suspects in a large copper theft case in another jurisdiction.

According to the ONPD, Arc assisted in locating missing persons, was called to assist multiple agencies that did not have a K-9 Officer, tracked fleeing suspects and located evidence from suspects. He also assisted surrounding schools in conducting school searches for illegal substances.
