ONPD hands out Firearm Safety Kits through partnership with Project ChildSafe

The Osage Nation Police Department still has Firearm Safety Kits available at its office, located in the Law Building on the ON campus.

Through a partnership with Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearm safety education and gun lock program, the ONPD received 300 free gun locks and safety information for distribution to the community. The ONPD began distributing the kits on Dec. 10.

“We feel that if even one accident or death can be prevented through Project ChildSafe, the program will have been worth the effort,” according to a statement.

The kits will be distributed on a first come first served basis until gone. Project ChildSafe has distributed more than 37 million firearm safety kits that include a gun-locking device throughout the country. A key goal of the program is to prevent loaded firearms from being left lying around the house where a child could pick it up and play with it, according to a statement.
