Osage Nation Police Chief Nick Williams presented Officer Mistty Perryman with the department’s Life Saving Award and a letter of commendation on Aug. 27.
According to an ONPD Facebook post, Officer Perryman and Osage County Deputies responded to a critical situation involving a female in a severe mental health crisis on Aug. 18.
Officer Perryman, Deputy A. Minson, and Deputy C. Stephenson were dispatched to a scene in the southern area of Osage County. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a woman “in a precarious state, clinging to a tree and covered in blood.” Demonstrating teamwork and quick thinking, they navigated through a treacherous area with heavy brush and trees before they could reach her.
“Officer Perryman took off her outer vest carrier and lifted the woman over her shoulder and carried her, ‘fireman’s carry’ style, to the clear and mowed portion of the yard,” according to the post. “Using a medical kit provided by the Project Tribute Foundation, the team was able to stop the bleeding from severe self-inflicted wounds. Additionally, Officer Perryman and Deputy Stephenson administered Naloxone, supplied by the Osage Nation, to counteract an apparent drug overdose.”
Due to the life-saving measures administered by the officers, the woman was stabilized and transported to the hospital for further care.
“We at the ONPD are very proud of the actions demonstrated by Officer Mistty Perryman, Deputy Minson, and Deputy Stephenson,” according to the post. “Thank you all for your dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to protect human life.”
