The newly opened First Americans Museum is hosting its inaugural Winter Holiday Arts Market on Dec. 4-5. But the night before, FAM members will be treated to a live Indigenous Fashion Show.
Dr. Jessica Harjo (Osage/Otoe-Missouria/Pawnee/Sac and Fox) of Weomepe Designs, in collaboration with Noheart Designs and Ribbonroots. will be featured in the show that will take place on Friday, Dec. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the FAM in Oklahoma City.
Following the show, FAM members will also have the benefit of shopping early at the museum’s holiday art market. The holiday art market begins on Saturday, Dec. 4 and ends on Sunday, Dec. 5 and features more than 25 artists from Oklahoma Tribal Nations. The two-day market, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public and will also feature artist demonstrations, children’s book readings, community partner booths and more.
“We are proud to be a platform for Oklahoma artists to showcase their work,” FAM Executive Director/CEO James Pepper Henry (Kaw) said in a release. “This is an opportunity for visitors to find one-of-a-kind Native-made gifts that will only be available here at FAM.”
Harjo, of the Grayhorse District, works as an artist and graphic designer in Oklahoma and teaches graphic design. She is the founder and owner of Weomepe Designs providing graphic design services and producing jewelry, apparel, and other creative design products, according to her website.
