Raymond Joseph “Joe” Freeman passed away on July 9, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family. He was born to Marcell Louise West and Raymond Joseph Hill on January 18, 1956, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a descendant of the West, Pryor and Hill families. Joe was a former Hominy District Drumkeeper. He was a member of the Bear clan and his Osage name is, Zhi ka ki hika, which means “Little Chief.”
Joe is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann (Maker) Freeman of Hominy, daughters Arlandra and husband Matthew Gray of Skiatook, OK, Christina and husband Ross Mashunkashey of Pawhuska, and Whitney Freeman of Hominy. Grandchildren, Joseph, Makenzie, Mia and Michaela. Stepfather, Jess Freeman Jr. of Moore, OK. Sisters, Kimberly Freeman of Hominy, Susan Fletcher of Hominy, Belle Hill Wilson of Hominy, and Regina Hill of Hominy. Brother, Mitchell Freeman of Moore, OK. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Rachel Freeman, and sister Rosa Hill Pledger.
Joe worked for the Osage Nation as the Housing Director. Joe worked for the Nation for over 20 years.
