Robert Tayrien Obituary

Robert C. Tayrien, 77, passed away on June 13, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.

Bob was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, on October 16, 1939 to Carl and Majel (Prophet) Tayrien. He was the grandson of W.D. Tayrien, great-grandson of Thomas Tayrien and the great-great-grandson of Cyprian Tayrien. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1958. He married Johanna Calvert, of Winfield, Kans., on January 25, 1962, at Christ the King Catholic Church, in Tulsa. They were married for 55 years. He was in the Air Guard, as a Medic for six years. He worked at Amoco, in Tulsa for 21 years; where he took early retirement, and went on to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He received his Horticulture and Landscape Architecture degree in 1985. After a trip to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia in 1991, they were called to make rosaries in honor of his devotion to the Blessed Mother, which continued for 24 years until his death. He was actively involved in church activities and he especially enjoyed the prayer group, the Rosarians, for 12 years. 

Bob is survived by his wife Johanna Tayrien; his three children Robert Tayrien, Jr., and his wife Beth; Christopher Tayrien and his wife Patricia; a daughter Mindy (Tayrien) Freeman; and his sister Sandra L. (Tayrien) Jaehnig and her husband Howard; eight grandchildren Tanner Tayrien, Johanna (Joleigh) Chancellor, Emily Freeman, Tatum Tayrien, Ashley Freeman, Jacob Freeman, Rileigh Freeman and Beau Tayrien. And six great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Chancellor, Josiah Chancellor, Katherine Tayrien, Mary Jane Tayrien, Sophia Thomas, Josee Chancellor and many nieces and nephews.   

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Majel Tayrien; his brother Donald Tayrien; and a grandson Tylor Tayrien.

The family wishes to thank family and friends for their prayers of support. And special thanks to Bearskin Clinic in Wyandotte, Okla., who guided his care after his stroke in 2003. Blue Stem Cardiology in Bartlesville and to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, especially the staff at 8 West.

Visitation was held June 15 at St. John Before The Latin Gate in Bartlesville, Okla., with the Rosary following. Mass was held on June 16 at St. John Before the Latin Gate with Fr. Michael Pratt officiating. Interment was in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home in Pawhuska.
