Skiatook Casino construction reaches milestone

Osage Manhattan Builders reached a milestone at the Skiatook Osage Casino construction site and celebrated with an employee appreciation luncheon on March 19.

“We reached the milestone of no accidents since we started on the construction of the new Skiatook Casino six months ago and we have a crew of 60 men,” said Cliff Crawford, Osage Manhattan Builders senior superintendent.

The final pour for the hotel area of the casino was completed that morning which consisted of 284 yards of concrete poured.

Osage Manhattan Builders served hamburgers, chips and soda for all the workers.

Following the luncheon, Osage Manhattan Builders had a raffle which included tape measures, aluminum levels, Home Depot gift cards, safety gloves, drilling and driving accessory kits and 42 and 76-piece tool sets.

Also, each worker received Tulsa Driller tickets, construction pencils and a hat.

Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle and his senior adviser Debra Atterberry attended the event, as well as Skiatook Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stephanie Upton.

“Today (March 19) was another exciting day for the Osage Nation. Attending today’s award ceremony for the workers makes me appreciate all the hard work that is being put forth by so many people. I want them to know how much I appreciate them. I look forward to reaching the next construction milestone here in Skiatook and to the completion of this project,” Red Eagle said.

The project is located on a 16.85-acre site with an approximate area of 76,730 square feet and consists of a covered entrance, casino, hotel, pool, convention/meeting room space, convenience store, gas station and site parking/landscaping.

The Hotel will contain 33 rooms and two 2-bay suites. The low rise will consist of a hotel lobby, registration area, casino and restaurant, bar, convenience store, convention/meeting room, back of house service areas for office, dock, warehouse, and kitchen.

Crawford said the next phase of the construction will consist of curbs, gutters, laying down asphalt and standing steel.

“We are going to be working on the outside walls and roof,” he said. “Then in 6-8 weeks we will have a topping out party where we fly the last piece of steel in the air – it’s a tradition and will be our next big milestone.”

The Skiatook Casino is expected to be finished in early 2014, according to Crawford.
