Special election voting poll open till 8 p.m.

The election poll is open until 8 p.m. at the former Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center building in Pawhuska for the 2017 Osage Nation special election.

Osage voters are being asked two questions on the special election ballot: One question asks voters whether the Nation’s definition of marriage should include same-sex marriages in tribal law. The second question asks whether to amend the Osage Constitution by adding language requiring a budget-setting process to be set in Osage law.

At 10 a.m. Election Office staff will pick up the absentee ballots being collected and kept at the Pawhuska Post Office. The staff will also pick up ballots from March 17-18 early voting days at the Election Office with an ON police escort.

The latest tally of absentee ballots mailed in stands at 1,109.

During early voting days, 67 Osages voted with 45 voters on March 17, and 22 voters on March 18, according to the Election Office.

Once the results are known, the Election staff and board will announce the results at the ON Congressional Chambers building on the government campus.

The Osage News will post election results this evening on its social media sites and website.
