Stephanie Erwin announces candidacy for Third Osage Minerals Council

My family is the Drum family from the Greyhorse District and I am from the Ponca Peace Maker Clan.  I have lived in Pawhuska all my life.  My daughter still lives on the original allotment west of Fairfax.  I presently serve on the Board of Directors of the Osage Shareholders Association.

My experience with the oil and gas business started when I went to work for the Minerals Branch of the Osage Agency.   I was detailed down to the Administration Office of the Osage Agency where I worked with the Individual Indian Money (IIM) accounts and helped figure payment.  I’ve worked as a Monitor/Evaluator for Federal Programs at which time part of the minerals staff was contracted through the tribe.  As part of the Federal Programs staff I traveled to Washington D.C. to negotiate the contracts and grants for the Osage Tribal Council.   At the Kaw Nation I worked as a Self-Governance Coordinator which consisted of negotiating with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Indian Health Services for compacts.  I also tracked the Kaw’s compacted money from the U.S. Senate appropriations through the different levels of the government.  I had the opportunity to work at every level of the process in the administration of the Osage Minerals Estate for many years.

There needs to be more focus on protecting the Osage Minerals Trust.  The BIA needs to increase accountability providing more fact-based information to the Mineral Council/Shareholders.  Control of the Minerals Trust needs to be returned to the Minerals Council.  I don’t believe in compacting the BIA.  The fiduciary responsibility of the Osage Minerals Trust belongs to the BIA.

The Minerals Council needs to have a more collaborative environment that respectfully recognizes the contribution of others especially when Shareholders speak to the Minerals Council.  The Minerals Council should show behavior that strives to exceed the need of the Osage Shareholders and Oil Producers.  I advocate the protection of the Minerals through the 1906 Act for the continued future of the trust for the Shareholders.

I AM A FIRM BELIEVER OF THE 1906 ACT, with amendments, that means we are a law of the U.S. Government.  It has taken care of the Minerals Trust for over 100 years and it will continue to protect the Trust.  Please feel free to email or call me at or 918-287-3355.

I would appreciate your vote, June 2, 2014.  I am #6 on the ballot.
