Ha-we. I am Carl Sellers and have filed my candidacy for the Osage Congress. My family and I are asking for your support in my bid for Congress. I am a lifelong resident of Pawhuska and will not have any problem attending Congressional Sessions. The Osage people want true cultural representation and that is what they deserve. I serve on the Pawhuska Il-lon-shka committee and have done so for 25 years. I am of Osage and Cherokee descent. I attended Haskell Indian Nations University, which was a junior college at the time. I went on to Central State in Edmond to receive my BA. My first job was teaching and coaching at the now closed Phoenix Indian School. My late mother was Kathleen Rector Sellers and my grandmother was Dora Saint John; a direct descendent of Pierce St. John. As the father of six daughters and two sons I know the importance of protecting our families and their futures.
As part of the community I have served as past JOM President, Recreation Board President, Little League Coach and Referee, Special Olympics Run volunteer, Cavalcade Rodeo volunteer, and past and present Osage County Youth Shelter Board President. For 28 years I have put on the Child Abuse Run to benefit the children of Osage county with all the money going to the Osage County Youth Shelter. For over 40 years I have worked along with my family to maintain the upkeep of the Saint John Osage Cemetery. My present job is as the Athletic Director for Dick Conner’s Correctional Center in Hominy, Oklahoma. I just received my 30 year pin. My job includes budgeting, travel, training and trainer, hiring, supervision, research, setting up league sports/brackets, coaching, self-defense, and presentations to the State Board of Corrections. Several of these duties will come in handy as a member of the Osage Nation Congress.
Many times through the years; constituents have voiced a need for assisted living and the Osage Nation is at the point that we can provide that type of help for our elders. There are other services that as a nation we need to look at for our elders. We also need to stress economic development beyond the casinos that will insure an investment for the future of our Osage people. Part of that investment is in higher education opportunities for the Osage people. Let us stop pre-judging our college students and help them and be proud of their plans.
Please vote Carl Sellers when you and your family vote in favor of new congressional members for a revitalized Osage Nation Congress.
