By Alexis Martin
My name is Alexis Martin, and I am humbling asking for your vote to the Osage Nation Congress. I am the daughter of Walker Martin and the late Brandy Lee Evans, and the granddaughter of LeeAnn Ammons, and the late Carolyn Perrier. I am a descendant of original allottees Rose Neal Hill (paternal) and Napolean Perrier (maternal). My Osage clan is the Tsi.Zhu.Wah.Shtah.Gen, Gentle Sky/Peacemaker. I three beautiful little girls that are my world and inspiration to make a difference in our Osage Community.
My goal in seeking a congressional seat is to bring a new set of eyes, perspective and voice. I am committed to advocating for social justice and economic sustainability for our nation, placing a strong emphasis on addressing the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs for all members.
I’ve been an advocate for people from all walks of life in various rolls since fully joining the workforce in 2014. I had the opportunity to serve our disadvantaged children at the Osage county youth shelter. After I was able to begin working with the Osage Nation to pursue my true passion of working in service for our people. I began my career with the Nation’s WIC Department during the formula recall, and it gave me perspective into what Osage families need in times of crisis. I now work within the Nation’s Counseling Center, which has given me experience in project directing and grant implementation.
My current work experience has also given me perspective into what laws and policies the Nation is lacking in regards to our Osage families including but not limited to safe and affordable housing, mental health, and Good Samaritan laws for drug overdoses. I believe we need more family first legislation that helps promote systems in which we feel safe, cared for and supported through all walks of life. I would also support programs and grant opportunities that provide work opportunities for young adults and new parents hoping to join the work force. One of my goals is to ensure all of our people are able to lead lives in which they do not wish to escape.
All Members deserve to feel loved and have the opportunity to not only survive but also thrive. To love one another. It’s what my faith calls me to do, and I believe my passion, dedication and resourcefulness will assist me in inspiring others to do so.
I am completely humbled and forever grateful for the opportunity to run in this election. I have been inspired and motivated by those that came before me and those who have yet to realize the value they add to this world.
